The Duomo in Novara
Novara, easily reached from the Castello Dal Pozzo is a flourishing country town with a long and interesting history.
For a day’s touring start by inspecting the Roman Walls, vestiges of these original walls date back to Roman times and can be seen in Piazza Cavour.
From there move on foot to visit the main attraction: The Basilica of San Gaudenzio, with its impressive domed roof topped by a spire was started in 1577 by Pellegrino Pellegrini, known as Tibaldi. It was finished almost a century later. The cupola, designed by Alessandro Antonelli (1844-88) is said to have been the trial run for the one in Turin.
